Transport

There is a distinct difference between general haulage and furniture transportation. Both are technically termed by many as “transport” or “haulage” but the distinct differences are not fully understood.

General haulage is commonly used to transport goods from manufacturer or supplier to warehouse and eventually on to the end user. Often goods go direct from factory or supplier to site. The service generally consists of “driver only” who does not get involved in the loading or unloading of the vehicle. Most goods are either stacked or palletised. The driver is not specifically trained in the handling of furniture be it flat packed or assembled. As a result of this type of operation goods are often damaged due to mishandling and or lack of expertise.

Furniture transport is very different from general haulage. At Abels, all our vehicles are specifically designed for the safe and secure transportation of furniture and fittings of all descriptions. With special interiors that ensure secure loading, suspension system that minimise risk of shock damage, satellite tracking and mobile communication. Our drivers are all experts in the handling, loading and unloading techniques of all types of products relating to FF&E. In addition many of them are trained in managing teams on site.
